About Me

Who am I and what experience do I have?

I have a wide range of experience working in health and social care.. After completing my Masters in Social Work I worked in an HIV and HCV service supporting sex workers, gay men and IV drug users. I worked alongside people who were experiencing a range of issues - chronic health conditions, terminal illness, disability, discrimination and addiction. To enhance my skills in working therapeutically with people I completed a postgraduate training in counselling/psychotherapy at the University of Edinburgh.

I have also undertaken training in bereavement counselling, relationships counselling, trauma therapy and also in counselling people with a learning disability. I have worked in a variety of counselling services including Cruse Bereavement Care, Couple Counselling Lothian and Couple Counselling Fife. I also worked for 15 years as Manager/Psychotherapist in a specialist counselling agency for abuse survivors. Within my private practice I have experience of working with neurodiversity including ADHD and autism and I am committed to the neurodiversity affirmative movement. I have experience of working with young adults, particularly university students and also with women’s experiences of infertility and menopause.

I believe my varied background experience has equipped me to effectively support people with the widest range of experiences that individuals bring to therapy including emotional difficulties e.g. anxiety and depression, relationship issues, loss/bereavement, identity, trauma and abuse as well as less specific issues such as experiencing loss of meaning and/or desire for deepening self awareness.
